First class - the first "smart" !? The child and the mobile phone: the pros and cons

A mobile phone has long become the third necessary thing, along with a wallet and keys, which we must take with us when leaving home. But if for adults the issue of using a smartphone is resolved and not subject to discussion, things are different with children.

A few years ago, schoolchildren received a mobile phone at their disposal, on average, at the age of 10. Since then, this indicator has been rapidly declining. According to the latest research by the American resource, in developed countries, most children receive their first mobile phone at the age of 6. Parents' motives in such cases are simple - the ability to stay connected and safe.

To put an end to the strife between supporters and opponents of mobile for children, the Australian company with the ear-cutting name Kisa decided. The manufacturer offers a dream device for parents who would like to keep in touch with their child, but, at the same time, protect him from the negative influence of the phone. The company's website offers a narrow range of communicators with different colors and the number of contacts - from 3 to 10. The phone operates in the mode of calls and messages, and is also equipped with GPS.

There is no such device on the Ukrainian market and you should not expect it to appear - in the kit for the phone, the developers offer their own connection with their tariffs. Yes, and such a device costs a lot by the standards of the Ukrainian market - $ 140 for the minimum package.

“Parents who want to stay in touch with their kids prefer phones with the minimum feature set and the simplest interface. Despite the fact that to some people push-button mobiles seem to be a relic of the past, for children it is a great option. A flashlight, a player, basic internet, GPS and, of course, the ability to keep in touch - all this meets the most popular requirements of parents for “children's” equipment, ”says Sergey Korogod, Head of Product and Service Development at Fly Ukraine.

Either way, buying a mobile phone has a number of advantages. At the same time, not only parents, but also children can benefit.

The first and most powerful argument in favor of buying a mobile phone for kids is safety. The ability to contact your offspring at any moment to find out if everything is in order, where he is and if he needs any help is worth a lot. In addition, after a certain briefing, your child can be trained to call emergency numbers, if you need help. Many mobile operators have taken into account the parents' weakness for "control". With their help, you can accurately determine the location of your child via GPS, as well as - introduce restrictions on the use of the Internet.

The modern world and a busy schedule often force us to change our plans. In this case, the mobile phone becomes indispensable. One call can help you out if you have to pick up your child from school or club, but for some reason you do not have time. The child will receive precise instructions on where and when to wait for you, instead of shedding tears or, on the contrary, going on an independent journey home.

Explain to your child that his phone is not a toy, he is responsible for it. You cannot lose or throw it away. In addition, the telephone enables the child to learn to think about others. For example, dial you on your own and warn you about your plans if friends invited him to the cinema or to visit. A calendar will come to the aid of forgetful children. Enter the necessary reminders or instructions into your phone and be calm - the borscht in the refrigerator will not be left without attention.

By giving your child the opportunity to have their own mobile phone, you give him a certain amount of confidence. Firstly, even in the simplest configuration, this is a valuable thing. Secondly, he has the ability to decide how to manage his time and funds in the account. This will be a rewarding workout. Discuss with your child how much money he needs to communicate with you and friends, at no extra cost.

Whether we like it or not, children are increasingly using social networks and a variety of electronic means to communicate. Thus, they feel connected to their peers and the world around them. It also helps in learning. The practice of a teacher sending homework assignments, grades or informing about changes in the schedule by e-mail or using other applications is widespread in developed countries and is increasingly common in Ukraine. Calls to get homework are becoming rare - not everyone even has a home phone. Children prefer SMS or social media correspondence.

Despite legitimate biases about play, play can have a positive effect on a child's development. Experts from the American Institute for the Future argue that the virtual world helps to bring up many necessary qualities in a child for his further self-realization. This is especially true for educational games and applications. A good imagination and a quick orientation in the world of technology are the main skills required to survive in the world of the future.

The phone is like any other valuable thing. requires attention and responsibility, both on the part of children and on the part of parents. Whether or not to buy a mobile phone for a child is up to you.
