Chamomile Tea Component Kills Cancer Cells

Many of the drugs that can be found in the pharmacy today were once sourced from plants. Nevertheless, the medical community has long treated herbal medicine with a certain degree of skepticism. However, in recent decades, many different substances with proven biological activity have been isolated from plants traditionally used in traditional medicine.

One of these substances is apigenin. It is found in many fruits, vegetables, and herbs. But most of all it is contained in pharmaceutical chamomile. Apigenin has a positive effect on the nervous system. Scientific studies have shown that this substance has an anxiolytic effect, that is, it reduces unnecessary anxiety. In addition, experiments have shown that apigenin increases the number of connections between neurons in the brain. This action has the potential to improve memory and other brain functions.

From a chemical point of view, apigenin belongs to a group of substances called flavonoids. Many of them have anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties and can be used in cancer prevention. Apigenin is no exception - there is a lot of scientific evidence that this substance reduces the likelihood of developing breast cancer, skin cancer (melanoma), colon cancer and several other types of cancer.

The mechanism of action of apigenin is extremely complex: it acts immediately on 160 different types of proteins found in cells. Approximately 20% of all cancers occur due to chronic inflammatory processes occurring in the tissues of the body. Due to its anti-inflammatory effect, apigenin can weaken these processes, thereby reducing the likelihood of cancer. In addition, experiments have shown that this substance is capable of suppressing the division of cancer cells and even causing their death. It has also been found that apigenin enhances the effects of anti-cancer chemotherapy drugs.

Thus, apigenin can be regarded as an effective cancer prevention agent. However, it should be used with caution in women on hormone replacement therapy, since apigenin acts on the same receptors as the female sex hormones - estrogens.

Apigenin is a triple action bioprotectant based on cruciferous extracts. Also, this preparation contains a number of other components that contribute to the prevention of cancer.
