Octopus Paul, who lived at the Maritime Center in Oberhausen, became world famous after predicting the winner of every match in the World Cup.
Prediction was carried out in this way, he was given two containers with food, each of which had the flag of the opposing team in the upcoming match. From which can the octopus began to eat, that team won. Despite the absurdity of this type of prediction, the octopus correctly guessed 80 percent of the winners of matches in the 2008 championship and all matches in 2010.
Interestingly, Paul made many enemies because of his predictions, some even threatened to kill him.
After the 2010 World Cup, octopus owner Julie McDee said there would be no more predictions, effectively dismissing him.
On October 26, 2010, Paul died in his aquarium in Germany. His remains were cremated and the fortuneteller octopus was buried in the maritime center.
