The word "ring" was formed from the Old Slavic root "Kolo", meaning wheel, circle. Previously, it was believed that a knot tied anywhere suitably, on hair, on clothes, on the wrist, protects a person from evil forces. Unclean force could not overcome the closed circle. That is, our preferences used rings in the first place as wards.
The newborn child was bathed in water with a silver ring to ward off illnesses, when they put the child to bed - they put him under the ring of the pillow.
So that the birth was easy, the future mother did not have to take off the ring during the whole time. It was believed that it was possible to return a spouse leaving the family by looking at him in the well of the wedding ring. Desiring to see their wife in their dreams, the girls put a ring under the pillow, or put it on the toe of their right foot.
In the ancient world, not everyone can wear a ring - it was not so much an ornament, but a symbol of a certain social position. So, for example, in ancient Rome, golden rings were worn by senators, while ordinary citizens were allowed to wear only iron rings.
They wore rings, co-forming with the "functions" of hands and fingers: the right hand symbolized power, the left - the heart. The ringless finger of the left hand from ancient times is considered to be associated with the heart, therefore, in the usual Eastern countries, to wear wedding rings on this finger. In Russia and in the countries of Europe, spouses wear rings on the ring finger of their right hand.
It is believed that the tradition of giving each other rings when joining in marriage originated in Ancient Egypt. The closed form of the ring embodies the eternity, the precious material from which it is made - the precious power of the feelings of the future spouses. In Russia, wedding rings were worn on the finger of a wife and a bride long before the wedding, sometimes even in childhood: a boy - silver (a sign of strength), a girl - gold, (a sign of cleanliness).
The wedding ring was carried by the wife during the marriage, the official recognition of their union by relatives from both sides. The traditional wedding ring is thinner than the wedding ring, can be decorated with stones, engraving, grain, filigree. At the wedding, the girl needs to give a ring with a diamond, which symbolizes the purity and strength of love, and also brings happiness.

The only admissible adornment of this ring by tradition is the engraving of names on its inner side: on the male ring - the name of the bride, on the female - the wife. Loving spouses do not take off their wedding rings, believing that they keep their family happiness and can make it perfect.
